A negative experience I'm having is that, when the MBA goes to sleep, the display appears to disconnect. This is noticeable only when waking it: the extra screen blanking of the display automatically reconnecting is almost imperceptible, and would otherwise be of negligible consequence, except for the result that all of my windows that were on that display are resized to fit on the MBA's built-in screen's resolution.
This is really aggravating, as I do arrange my windows quite particularly.Ford sync 2 apps
HDMI devices are able to be queried by the connected computer to check display resolutions even when powered off, so this is a non-issue. DisplayPort devices seem to not have this feature. Display connected via DisplayPort disconnects, reconnects when resuming, resizing windows on display Ask Question.
Asked 4 years, 9 months ago. Active 4 years, 4 months ago. Viewed 2k times. Replace monitor - maybe something is wrong with this unit or this model? Tweak something in OS X - maybe there's a setting that I can alter that will disable this behavior, without having to disable screensaver or sleep.
Suggestions welcome! Replace MBA - I'm already planning to pick up a new Macbook Pro this month, but I don't know if I'll get it in time to be within the display's return period, should I decide to return the display.
I have a feeling this is not a reliable solution, because it's unlikely that the new machine wouldn't exhibit this behavior unless the behavior would change between Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2. Colin Dean Colin Dean 1 1 silver badge 7 7 bronze badges.

It only takes a minute to sign up. I just added a 3rd monitor to my Windows 7 bit computer. When the monitor goes to sleep, it won't wake up. The other two monitors wake up fine connected via hdmi and DVI. If I turn the monitor off and on then it will get a signal but when the monitor comes on, all windows on that monitor are moved to a different monitor and there is an error message displayed about a DisplayPort Link Failure:. I should note that my computer is set to never sleep while my monitors are set to sleep after X minutes.
I've seen people say on forums that they believe when the computer is set to sleep then when the computer wakes it will send the DisplayPort handshake, but if the monitors sleep and the computer does not sleep then when the monitors wake up the video card will not send the DisplayPort handshake. If the monitor goes to sleep then I can quickly wake it up and everything is fine but if it sleeps longer than say one minute then it won't wake up. Power cycling the monitor gives the DisplayPort Link Failure error mentioned above.
I actually think I found an answer to this. That was surprisingly fast considering the number of dead ends I saw on forums. User nixda on a different question, Turning DisplayPort monitor off disables monitor completelysays:. I thought the above solved it because when the monitor went to sleep power light changed from blue to orange I could quickly wake it up without issue.
I now don't think the above step is necessary. This is a video card, video card driver, or operating system power management issue. The monitor DP DisplayPort is passive. It simply waits for the signal from the video card to awake. My guess is somewhere in that software is the ability to tell it to adjust what the card is doing as far as power management. I installed that utility and checked the Disable ULPS setting and sure enough when my monitor went to sleep I could now wake it back up.
As far as I can tell the TriXX utility has no way to make that setting stick between reboots I might be wrong about this. Digging further I found several forums discussing disabling ULPS mostly in the context of working out crossfire issues, e. In those forums the procedure they recommend is searching the entire registry for EnableUlps and changing the value of each occurrence from 1 to 0 in fact you will see several minor variations on the exact procedure but this is the gist of it.
The EnableUlps setting appeared elsewhere but was already set to 0. If you're like me you'll be reluctant to change the registry to fix a problem that seems like it should have a readily available solution.
But as you dig around I think you'll find that ready solutions don't currently exist and it beats modifying the DisplayPort cable with electrical tape which is an oft suggested solution. Note: people say you will need to redo the registry tweaks every time you update your video drivers. I have come across some "misc Chinese industrial" monitor with DP input, that behaved in this way - and, based on available information, it's the monitor's fault.
In spite of the original intentions behind DP a single electric hop from the south bridge to the display matrix driverthe monitor does contain an "AD board", giving it the ability to select among multiple video inputs VGA, HDMI, DP. Based on the limited information available, the HPD is normally just a static level-based active high indication, from the video sink to the video source from monitor to PCthat a video sink is plugged in, in a particular Display Port socket on the video source.
Based on my practical experience, I doubt how much use this "interrupt" capability is - it's possibly not essential. In my case, after cold power-up of the displaythe PC does seem to wake up the display just fine, but when the PC enters S3 sleep suspend to RAMsomething happens in the display, and it doesn't wake up after the PC wakes up.
Why: apparently because the display fails to pull the HPD wire high. Interestingly, if you power-cycle the monitor while the PC is asleep, the display does wake up after the PC wakes up from S3 sleep.
Also, the problem doesn't occur if the PC is configured just to turn off the display to save power or screen backlight but the CPU and OS stay up and running. So it could be something like a "good night" that the PC tells the monitor via AUX or DP payload during the "PC going to S3 sleep" sequence, and the monitor responds by going to sleep for good. Interestingly, in my culprit monitor, the HPD signal is inactive after a monitor power-cycle, looking pretty much identical to what it is after the host PC falling S3 asleep.
After a wakeup from S3 not preceded by a monitor power-cycle the HPD remains low.Make sure you have the AMD R9 video card driver installed. Are you turning the monitor off via its power button or is it plugged into a surge protector and you are turning the surge protect off? Disconnect the monitor USB upstream cable from the computer. Turn the monitor off using its power button. What happens? Other users have reported that by doing this, the monitors no longer have the power save mode issue.
I have my driver installed. I am turning it off via power button on monitor Disconnected the USB upstream, the windows sound isn't there anymore, but the monitor still disconnects. I meant the latest driver. Turning the monitor off should not cause the operating system to remove the monitor driver from the Device Manager causing the "New Hardware found" message. When you installed this driver, does the UH appear in the Device Manager?
Then, allow it to go to sleep, wake it up. Is the UH no longer in the Device Manager? List the AMD driver version. List all the ports on the R9. Yes my driver is up to date. Installed the driver although the installation was suspiciously fastno difference. The monitor had been in the Device Manager even before installing the driver. So to clarify the issue, because I don't know if I had properly explained it.
Tried going to sleep mode and the monitor didn't disconnect, but when I turn it off it still disconnects. Pointing out that I have the same issue with mini-displayport from video card to fullsize displayport monitor.
Pressing the power button on the monitor causes Windows 7 readjust as if a monitor cable had been completely removed. What version are people getting now and does it fix this issue? Surely I should have got an A02 by now?
